Notes

During the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the prestigious Monnaie de Paris, founded in 864 (the oldest institution in France and one of the oldest companies in the world) participates in the celebration of the most followed sporting event in the world. The institution was already present at the first modern Olympic Games (Athens 1896). The creation of the first Olympic medal (no medals were awarded at the ancient Games) was the work of the Frenchman Jules-Clément Chaplain (1839-1909), and it was minted at the Monnaie de Paris. This coin intended for the general public is a way to mark and continue the links between the institution and the Games and also to promote Paralympic athletes.
